Frances E. W. Harper was an American author and lecturer, and was the leading black poet of her time. She was one of the country's most eloquent orators, often referred to as the "Bronze Muse," and traveled the country denouncing slavery.

Dr. Daniel Hale Williams is credited with performing the first successful heart surgery at Provident Hospital in Chicago which he founded in 1891. Dr. Dan is shown making a house call to visit his little friend. Jeffrey consented to his examination only after getting one of his mom's fresh, homemade teacakes.
